Healthy Donuts
Donuts! Who doesn't like them? They're delicious, specially if they are filled with a sweet sauce or cream or even with frosting, sprinkles or a cute theme decoration. Unfortunately donuts are calorie bombs and 'empty calories' because they are just saturated fats and sugar.

When you follow a healthy and balanced diet donuts get off the menu right away, that's when cravings come. But part of eating a healthy diet is finding balance and healthy alternatives to enjoy even when we eat healthy. This donuts are high in protein and good fats!

This recipe is very easy to make, has very few ingredients and you'll en up with a fluffy and moist dough that goes perfect with a chocolate frosting. Each donut is 60 calories each so don't worry about eating two for dessert, three for snack or even 4!

Ingredients: (For 12 small donuts)
For the dough:
- 3 tablespoons (60g) of whole wheat flour or oat flour
- 30g vanilla protein powder (1 serving)
- 1/4 (80g) cup of unsweetened greek yogurt
- 1/4 cup (45g) egg whites (2 egg whites)
- 1/2 tablespoon (8g) baking powder
- 2 teaspoons (10g) stevia
For the chocolate frosting:
- 1/2 can (200g) coconut milk or coconut cream
- 1/3 cup (150g) cacao powder
- 1 teaspoon (5g) stevia
- 1/3 cup of chopped nuts
To make the dough:
- Beat the egg whites with a whisk or a mixer until they form soft and white peaks.
- Add the greek yogurt and beat for a few more minutes.
- Add the protein, flour, stevia, baking powder and mix until all the ingredients are incorporated.
- Grease a silicone donut mold with coconut oil and pour the mixture 3/4 of the space capacity, donuts will rise in the oven.
- Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180ºc or 300ºF for 13 minutes without opening the oven door.
- Let the donuts cool in a rack before spreading the frosting.
To make the frosting:
- Pour the coconut cream in a cold bowl and beat with a mixer or with a whisk for 5 to 10 minutes or until they form firm peaks.
- Add the cacao powder and stevia and beat for a few more minutes.
- Chill before decorating.
- Spread the frosting on top of each donut and decorate with chopped nuts
Tips:
- Put your bowl on the freezer for 30 minutes before pouring the coconut cream.
- Spread the frosting on a plate and turn it upside down. If it sticks your frosting is ready, if it falls down you need to beat it for a few more minutes.
